Abstract


A SOCIOLOGICAL EVALUATION ON THE CONCEPT OF VIOLENCE

There are many possible ways to define violence. The World Health Organization defines violence as the intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a group or community, that either result in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, psychological harm, maldevelopment or deprivation. The violence phenomena are sociologically analyzed by many variables. Violence as one of the research areas in sociology has recently attracted great interest among sociologists and also some other researches in social sciences. There is a close connection between the actions accepted as violence in society and the structure of the society. Violence is a multidimensional event and it is classified in various forms. Violence can be dealt with by means of different approaches. This study aims at emphasizing greatly the socio-cultural and social-related sources of the violence applications mostly with a theoretical viewpoint.
