Abstract

THE PERCEPTION OF MOSQUEE-ATTENDEES ON IMMIGRANTS IN THE CONTEXT OF BROTHERHOOD OF ANSAR (THE HELPERS) AND AL-MUHAJIR (THE IMMIGRANTS)

Immigration is a process, which stems either from voluntary or compulsory factors. The transformation process which started in the Middle East with 2011 Arap spring influenced Syria as well, and a civil war broke out in the country. As a consequence, some Syrian people have had to abandon their countries and ended up as refugees. Many of these refugees are living in Turkey. This research was conducted on 457 people, who are randomly selected out of the mosque attendees in some districts of Istanbul between November 2015 and January 2016. In this research, the perceptions of these mosque- attendees on immigrants in terms of variebles of age, education, socio-economic conditions and marital status have been analysed. The findings of the research demonstrate that there are meaningful differences in the perceptions of the mosque- attendees on immigrants in term of the variables of age, education level and place longest resided.
